Event Date: Tue August 24 2010
Until this day, there are still approximately 150-240 US nuclear missiles stationed at many European countries, the so called umbrella states.
With a small but powerful event, we want to protest against these weapons of mass destruction:
Nuclear Weapons have no place in Europe!
On Tuesday, August 24th at 5.30 pm, we want to hold an anti-nuclear flashmob with as many people as possible on the Marktplatz in Basel.
It’s very simple: you just have to come to the Marktplatz a little before 5.30 pm and once the big umbrella’s, held by a few persons in the middle of the square and at the corners open, you let yourself fall to the ground dead. Count to ten slowly, then get up. The umbrella’s represent the umbrella states. In order to see what this can look like, check out the flash mob performed by Swiss Anti-Nuclear activists: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0oe7k7M4IU
You can get background information about nuclear weapons in Europe at our website http://www.ippnw-students.org/BAN/nuclearweapons.html.
Please come and tell your friends about this event. Send them this message and try to get them mobilized. We need your help if we really want to have many people that day. So, send out SMS, use Twitter and Facebook and send everyone you know who could be in Basel that day a mail. Thanks, and see you on August 24th.
